Clinic Information
Mission
The mission of the Behavioral Health Department is to provide behavioral health services to the brigade of midshipmen, U.S. Naval Academy, and all eligible active duty personnel, retirees, and their beneficiaries in the Annapolis area.
Populations Served
- The primary population is the Brigade of Midshipmen, other active duty military personnel, and their eligible beneficiaries.
- TRICARE patients who are Prime enrollees at Naval Health Clinic Annapolis are given priority.
- Generally, only services to adults are provided. Services for children and adolescents are limited and available on a case-by-case basis.
Services Provided
- Behavioral Health Services: The Behavioral Health Department provides outpatient psychological evaluations (including limited psychological testing) and outpatient psychotherapy (e.g. individual, group). No inpatient services are available.
- Substance Abuse Services: Assessment and intervention for drug and alcohol problems are available from the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP), under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.
- Consultation:Behavioral Health staff provide consultative services to other health care providers at Naval Health Clinic Annapolis and other military medical facilities, and psycho-educational presentations to Naval Health Clinic Annapolis and other commands in the Annapolis area.
Referrals to Other Facilities
The Behavioral Health Department may refer patients to the TRICARE Prime provider network for services that cannot be provided at Naval Health Clinic Annapolis.
Military Hospitals
Outpatient: Outpatient behavioral health services beyond the scope of NHCA BHD may be requested from the Behavioral Health Departments of nearby military hospitals: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), Malcolm-Grow Air Force Medical Center (MGAFMC), Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (FBCH).
Inpatient: Military inpatient psychiatry services for adults are available at WRNMMC.
Civilian Hospitals
Inpatient Adult: Military inpatient psychiatry services for adults are available at WRNMMC.
Inpatient Child and Adolescent: Inpatient psychiatry services for children and adolescent beneficiaries are not available at military hospitals in the D.C. region, and should be referred to civilian hospitals through TRICARE.
After Hours Services
- After-Hours Consultation: Consultation with medical providers and commands is available through the Behavioral Health Duty Officer.
- Active Duty: Since Naval Health Clinic Annapolis does not have an Emergency Room, active duty personnel are typically directed to the Emergency Rooms at WRNMMC if they are deemed safe to transport that distance. If active duty personnel are not safe to transport to WRNMMC, they are typically directed to the Emergency Rooms at Anne Arundel Medical Center or at North Arundel Medical Center, whichever is closer to the patient.
- Non-Active Duty Beneficiaries: Non-active duty beneficiaries are typically directed to the Emergency Rooms at Anne Arundel Medical Center or at North Arundel Medical Center, whichever is closer to the patient.
